Church Officers

 

The session

The Session is the council for the congregation responsible “for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.” 

Each Session must elect a Clerk of Session.  The Clerk of Session is the ruling elder elected to serve as secretary and keeper of records and rolls for a session.

the deacon board

The ministry of deacons as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. 

The board of deacons, at its first meeting following the annual meeting, shall elect a moderator and a secretary from among its members and shall form such committees as necessary to carry out its work.

In addition to the duties above, the deacon board:
  • Plans an annual event for the 80 + seniors
  • Partners with the Food Pantry
  • Provides Christmas Poinsettias and gift cards for sick and shut-in members
  • Partners with the Evangelism and Outreach Committee for the Angel Tree Project
  • Participates in other Outreach efforts.

the trustee board

Where permitted by civil law, each congregation shall cause a corporation to be formed and maintained.  If incorporation is not permitted, individual trustees shall be elected by the congregation.  Any such individual trustees shall be elected from the congregation’s members in the same manner as those elected to the ordered ministries of deacon and ruling elder.  

Only persons eligible for membership in the congregation shall be eligible to be members of the corporation and to be elected trustees.  The board of trustees, at its first meeting following the annual meeting, shall elect a president and a treasurer from among its members as necessary to carry out its work.
