Director, Chancel Choir/Interim Organist Dr. Laddie P. Bell, Jr.
Laddie P. Bell, Jr., Ph.D., is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he began his piano training at the age of five. He continued studying piano and began studying organ at the age of ten in Karlsrue, Germany, when his father was an Army officer stationed in Europe. He continued to study organ at Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, Michigan with Dr. Warren Becker and voice with Minnie Iverson Wood. He has also studied voice with Jeanette Cross of Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Bell has performed as a concert pianist and organist in various cities throughout the United States. While in the United States Army, he won first place in both the classical instrumental and classical vocal divisions of the Second United States Army Entertainment Competiotion. While living in Richmond, Virginia, he was a member of the Richmond Symphony Chorus, CAFUR Choral Society of the University of Richmond, and brass-baritone with the Opera Alliance of Richmond. For two successive years Dr. Bell conducted performances of Handel's Messiah with full orchestra instrumentation and 120+ voice choruses at the Mosque Auditorium in Richmond, Virginia. He has performed as guest organist for several major oratorio works including Handel's Messiah and Brahms' Requiem. He has conducted and served as organist with several church and community choirs. Currently, he teaches piano and organ privately in the Washington, DC area where he resides.
